Jill Scott is the only daughter from her mom Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia the state of Pennsylvania on April 4, 1972. Scott was raised as an sole daughter by her maternal grandmother. Scott was a student at her school at the Philadelphia High School for Girls followed by Temple University after graduating. She took secondary school classes the course of two years while also working. She hoped to be an English teacher in high school. However, her dream was in vain when she left school after three years of study and became a teachers' aide. Her career began with a performance artist who spoke words and performing live at poetry readings. Her next collaboration was with Amir Quest Love Thompson from The Roots. You Got Me, their collaborative song was written by them. In Roots' show she came out as an artist. Following that, she started collaborating with musicians like Eric Benet Will Smith or Common. Additionally, she was able to gain experience in the performing arts during the Canada-wide tour of Broadway's musical Rent. The label signed her as its first artist.
